Everything below concerns reference standard. We keep the language plain, cite what the science says, and separate well-supported claims from open questions.

The peer-reviewed record is dominated by small early-phase studies, case reports and pharmacovigilance summaries rather than large randomised trials. Papers typically examine tanning response, receptor selectivity or patterns of reported adverse events. Many note that participants obtained the peptide outside a clinical setting, which limits verification of composition and administered amount. Reported events vary widely, and causality is frequently unclear because the identity and purity of self-sourced material are unknown. Open questions include whether repeated melanocortin receptor stimulation produces cumulative effects, and how often label claims match actual content.
Identification in laboratories relies on reversed-phase liquid chromatography coupled with tandem mass spectrometry, with product-ion spectra compared against a certified reference standard. High-resolution mass spectrometry supplies accurate mass confirmation, and peptide mapping after enzymatic digestion separates melanotan II from closely related analogues. Quantitation of seized material is complicated by unknown counter-ions and residual trifluoroacetate left from purification. Immunoassays raised against alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone can cross-react, so chromatographic confirmation is normally required. Urinary detection windows are short, and reported limits of detection differ substantially between laboratories.
Melanotan II holds no marketing authorisation from the Food and Drug Administration, the European Medicines Agency, the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency or Australia's Therapeutic Goods Administration. Products sold under that name are treated as unapproved new drugs, and their sale or import is prohibited in several jurisdictions. Other countries classify the peptide as a prescription-only medicine or place it among controlled substances, so the legal position changes with the destination market. No pharmacopoeial monograph supplies an official specification, because the material is not a licensed pharmaceutical. Consequently, products offered online are not manufactured to a shared public standard.
Lyophilised melanotan-2 is comparatively robust when kept dry, cold and dark, and a desiccated powder stored at minus twenty degrees Celsius or below is generally expected to retain its chemical integrity for extended periods. In solution the peptide is far less stable, with degradation proceeding through oxidation of tryptophan and histidine residues, hydrolysis adjacent to the lactam bridge, and aggregation at higher concentrations. Repeated freeze-thaw cycling accelerates loss of the parent peak. Working aliquots are therefore prepared once, held cold, and used without letting the stock return to ambient temperature.
Quality assessment of research-grade peptide rests mainly on reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography for purity and on mass spectrometry for identity confirmation. A single main peak above a stated threshold, commonly ninety-eight percent by peak area, is the usual release criterion applied by suppliers. Independent analyses commissioned by laboratories and consumer organisations have repeatedly reported discrepancies between label claims and measured content, including truncated sequences, residual trifluoroacetate, and lower-than-declared peptide mass. Those findings do not establish that every supplier is unreliable, but they indicate that purity figures printed on a vial are claims requiring verification rather than settled facts.
Regulatory treatment varies by jurisdiction and has changed over time. In several countries the peptide is handled as an unapproved prescription medicine, and import or sale for human use is restricted, while elsewhere it falls under poisons or controlled-substance schedules. Enforcement activity against online vendors has been reported in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States. Scholarly writing discusses melanotan-2 chiefly as an experimental tool and as a case study in unregulated peptide supply, and its precise legal position in any given country should be checked against current national schedules.

The talks came close to achieving an overall breakthrough on nuclear arms control, but ended in failure due to Reagan's proposed Strategic Defense Initiative and Gorbachev's proposed cancellation of it. Like Reagan, British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher also got along well with Gorbachev despite her pronounced anticommunism; she was subsequently encouraged by both his optimistic domestic reform agenda and his arms-control efforts through the mid-1980s. Fundamental to the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the Gorbachev policy initiatives of "restructuring" (perestroika) and "openness" (glasnost) had broad ramifications. To this end, historian Sheila Fitzpatrick wrote of glasnost:
During protests against ICE operations in Portland, United States, some protesters flew the flag. The flag also saw use during the anti-Trump No Kings 2.0 protests in October 2025, e.g. in Los Angeles, Miami, and Spokane. In Mexico in November 2025, the flag was among various symbols used by a group identifying itself as "Generation Z Mexico", who is against drug violence that claims tens of thousands of Mexican lives each year and the security policies of Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum. Former Mexican president Vicente Fox wore a T-shirt emblazoned with the symbol while attending the protests. Bulgarians protesting against increases in pension and social security payments in November–December 2025 used the flag. The flag was seen during the "Flamingo Revolution" in Albania. In August 2026, the Straw Hat Pirates' Jolly Roger was spray-painted on the National Monument on Dam Square in Amsterdam, alongside the phrases "Time to wake up!" and "Stop the human trafficking".
Obsidian artifacts first appeared in the European continent in Central Europe in the Middle Paleolithic and had become common by the Upper Paleolithic, although there are exceptions to this. Obsidian played an important role in the transmission of Neolithic knowledge and experiences. The material was mainly used for production of chipped tools which were very sharp due to its nature. Artifacts made of obsidian can be found in many Neolithic cultures across Europe. The source of obsidian for cultures inhabiting the territory of and around Greece was the island of Milos; the Starčevo–Körös–Criș culture obtained obsidian from sources in Hungary and Slovakia, while the Cardium-Impresso cultural complex acquired obsidian from the island outcrops of the central Mediterranean. Through trade, these artifacts ended up in lands thousands of kilometers away from the original source; this indicates that they were a highly valued commodity. X-ray fluorescence techniques have also allowed obsidian in Greece to be identified as coming from Milos, Nisyros or Gyali, islands in the Aegean Sea. John Dee had a mirror, made of obsidian, which was brought from Mexico to Europe between 1527 and 1530 after Hernando Cortés's conquest of the region.

==== Wound healing ==== High dose aspirin treatment (which inhibits cyclooxygenases-1 and -2 to block their production of 12-HHT), thromboxane synthase knockout, and BLT2 receptor knockout, but not TXA2 receptor knockout, impair keratinocyte-based re-epithelialization and thereby closure of experimentally induced wounds in mice. A synthetic BLT2 receptor agonist accelerates wound closure not only in this mouse model but also in the db/db mouse model of obesity, diabetes, and dyslipidemia due to leptin receptor deficiency. 12-HHT accumulated in the wounds of the former mouse model. Companion studies using an in vitro scratch test assay indicated that 12-HHT stimulated human and mouse keratinocyte migration by a BLT2 receptor-dependent mechanism that involved the production of tumor necrosis factor α and metalloproteinases. These results indicate that the 12-HHT/BLT2 receptor axis is a critical contributor to wound healing in mice and possibly humans. The axis operates by recruiting the movement of keratinocytes to close the wound. This mechanism may underlie the suppression of wound healing that accompanies the high dose intake of aspirin and, based on mouse studies, other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents (NSAIDs) in humans. Synthetic BLT2 agonists may be useful for speeding the healing of chronic ulcerative wounds, particularly in patients with, for example diabetics, that have impaired wound healing.
Malcolm H. Kerr first coined the term "Arab Cold War" to refer to a political conflict inside the Arab world between Nasserist republics defending Arab socialism, Pan-Arabism, and Arab nationalism led by Nasser's Egypt, against traditionalist monarchies led by Saudi Arabia. An Atlantic Council member Bilal Y. Saab, an About.com writer Primoz Manfreda, an Iranian scholar Seyyed Hossein Mousavian and a Princeton University scholar Sina Toossi, journalist Kim Ghattas, Foreign Policy journalist Yochi Dreazen, Brookings Institution researcher Sultan Barakat, and Newsweek journalist Jonathan Broder use the term "cold war" to refer to tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran. In February 2016, a University of Isfahan professor Ali Omidi dismissed the assumptions that the conflict between Iran and Saudi Arabia would grow tense.
A report by demographer William Frey suggests that as of 2019, 50.9% of Generation Z is white, 13.8% is black, 25.0% Hispanic, and 5.3% Asian. 29% of Generation Z are children of immigrants or immigrants themselves, compared to 23% of Millennials when they were at the same age. As of 2019, 13.7% of the U.S. population is foreign-born, compared to 9.7% in 1997, when the first members of Generation Z had their birth cries. Indeed, according to the Pew Research Center, in spite of the diminished flow of immigrants to the United States following the Great Recession, Generation Z is the most ethnically diverse yet seen. 52% of this generation is white. 25% is Hispanic. 14% is black, and 4% is Asian. Approximately 4% is multiracial, and this number has risen rapidly between 2000 and 2010. More specifically, the number of Americans who identify as mixed white and black has grown by 134% and those of both white and Asian extraction by 87%. For comparison, 44% of Millennials, 40% of Generation X, and 28% of the Baby Boomers identify as non-white. Research by the demographer Bill Frey suggests that at the national level, Hispanics and Asians are the fastest-growing racial minority groups in the United States while the number of Caucasians under the age of 18 has been declining since 2000. Overall, the number of births to Caucasian women in the United States dropped 7% between 2000 and 2018. Among foreign-born Caucasian women, however, the number of births increased by 1% in the same period.
The secret behind a spider web's stickiness lies in the tiny glue droplets dotting its silk threads. Orb-weaver spiders, such as Larinioides cornutus, coat their silk with a special hygroscopic substance that keeps the glue soft and tacky by drawing in water from the air. This built-in humidity control prevents the adhesive from drying out too quickly. The hardening of the viscoelastic protein is indirectly controlled by changes in water content, which in turn affect the concentration of the ionic liquid. As this balance shifts, the glue's viscosity adjusts, helping the web maintain its grip on captured prey. The web is electrically conductive which causes the silk threads to spring out to trap their quarry, as flying insects tend to gain a static charge which attracts the silk. Neurotoxins have been detected in the glue balls of some spider webs. Presumably these toxins help immobilize prey, but their function could also be antimicrobial, or protection from ants or other animals that steal from the webs or might attack the spider. Spider silk has greater tensile strength than the same weight of steel and much greater elasticity. Its microstructure is under investigation for potential applications in industry, including bullet-proof vests and artificial tendons. Researchers have used genetically modified mammals and bacteria to produce the proteins needed to make this material.

Miso: A fermented soybean paste that is a cornerstone of Japanese cuisine. Its production involves combining koji (usually rice-based) with cooked soybeans and salt, followed by fermentation for weeks or even years. Enzymes in the koji break down complex proteins and carbohydrates in the soybeans, creating miso's rich and nuanced flavor. The fermentation time, type of koji, and additional ingredients all contribute to a wide variety of miso types, from sweet white miso to robust red miso. Miso adds depth and complexity to dishes such as soups, stews, marinades, and sauces. Sake: In sake production, koji converts rice starch into fermentable sugars. Unlike beer brewing, where saccharification and fermentation occur sequentially, sake brewing integrates these stages in a parallel fermentation environment. This dynamic interplay contributes to sake's unique flavor profile. Koji not only facilitates starch conversion but also develops nuanced aromas and flavors in the final product. Soy Sauce: A fermented condiment derived from soybeans and wheat, with koji initiating enzymatic breakdown. Koji is cultivated on roasted wheat and soybeans and then mixed with salt water to create a brine called moromi, which ferments for months. Koji enzymes break down proteins and starches, contributing to soy sauce's umami flavor. After fermentation, the moromi is pressed, pasteurized, filtered, and bottled.
In those with prediabetes, alpha-glucosidase inhibitors such as acarbose may delay or reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes when compared to placebo, however there was no conclusive evidence that acarbose improved cardiovascular mortality or cardiovascular events, according to a 2018 Cochrane review. In those with prediabetes, pioglitazone may delay or reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes compared to placebo or no intervention, but no difference was seen compared to metformin, and data were missing on mortality and complications and quality of life, according to a 2020 Cochrane review. In those with prediabetes, there was insufficient data to draw any conclusions on whether SGLT2 inhibitors may delay or reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, according to a 2016 Cochrane review.

==== United States ==== As of 2018, Zipline was working with the FAA to develop rules for drone operation beyond the line of sight. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the FAA granted a Part 107 waiver to Novant Health in partnership with Zipline for the delivery of medical supplies and personal protective equipment to facilities in North Carolina. The company plans to offer deliveries to homes. On November 18, 2021, Zipline started a trial service with Walmart for e-commerce shopping deliveries in Pea Ridge, Arkansas. The service, selectable to online shoppers using a special mobile app, could deliver to all residences within 50 miles (80 km) of a particular Walmart store in Pea Ridge during daylight hours. On June 21, 2022, the license "Package Delivery by Drone (Part 135)" was granted. On October 4, 2022, Zipline began commercial delivery services in Salt Lake City, Utah, in partnership with Intermountain Healthcare. On September 18, 2023, the FAA announced it had authorized Zipline to begin making commercial deliveries beyond the line of sight without visual observers. In April 2025, Zipline began making deliveries for Walmart in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex using Platform 2 drones.
=== Disorders === Hyperparathyroidism, the presence of excessive amounts of parathyroid hormone in the blood, occurs in two very distinct sets of circumstances. Primary hyperparathyroidism is due to autonomous, abnormal hypersecretion of PTH from the parathyroid gland, while secondary hyperparathyroidism is an appropriately high PTH level seen as a physiological response to hypocalcemia. A low level of PTH in the blood is known as hypoparathyroidism and is most commonly due to damage to or removal of parathyroid glands during thyroid surgery. There are a number of rare but well-described genetic conditions affecting parathyroid hormone metabolism, including pseudohypoparathyroidism, familial hypocalciuric hypercalcemia, and autosomal dominant hypercalciuric hypocalcemia. Of note, PTH is unchanged in pseudopseudohypoparathyroidism. In osteoporotic women, administration of an exogenous parathyroid hormone analogue (teriparatide, by daily injection) superimposed on estrogen therapy produced increases in bone mass and reduced vertebral and nonvertebral fractures by 45–65%.

Regulatory treatment varies by country. In the United States, the European Union and Australia it is an unapproved drug and its sale is restricted, while some other jurisdictions list it as prescription-only or controlled. The applicable rules depend on the country of import.
Reversed-phase LC-MS/MS is the usual approach for both identification and quantitation. High-resolution mass spectrometry and peptide mapping serve as confirmatory methods. Immunoassays are rarely used alone because of cross-reactivity.
Published testing of seized and purchased samples frequently reports discrepancies between declared and measured peptide content. Counter-ion content and residual solvents add further variation. Independent analysis is the only way to confirm composition.
Solutions are best kept cold, protected from light, and buffered to a pH that limits hydrolysis. Dividing a stock into single-use aliquots avoids repeated freeze-thaw cycles, which measurably reduce the intact parent peak over time.
